COMMUNITY SCHOOL LEARNING EXCHANGE

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we’re proud to highlight one of our dedicated Women United members, Beth Hirz, Erie County’s District Attorney. Beth has been a longtime advocate and supporter of United Way’s work in our community. We recently sat down with her to learn more about why she believes in our work and what inspires her continued support.

On May 14, United Way of Erie County held our first annual Community School Student Leadership Retreat sponsored by Women United. Nearly 200 students who are members of leadership groups from 13 elementary and middle community schools came together at UPMC Park for a day of fun games and leadership skill building. 

Supporters of United Way know that community schools work to break down nonacademic barriers low-income children face keeping them from being successful in school. A child’s life circumstances can greatly impact their ability to learn and thrive.
