Thursday Sep 9th, 2021

United Way's Erie FREE Taxes is looking for volunteer tax preparers for the upcoming tax season. Whether you're a student, working individual or simply have extra time to spare, Erie FREE Taxes needs YOUR help in assisting low-to-moderate income individuals file their taxes in Erie County. Here's all you need to know about becoming a Erie FREE Taxes volunteer tax preparer!

Who can volunteer?

You!  Anyone willing to give their time and talents to benefit their community can volunteer as a VITA tax preparer. This could be a retired tax professional, a college student, or simply someone who is interested in the tax-filing process and wants to help!

What will I do?

You’ll receive training and be IRS certified to provide free tax-preparation assistance to low-to-moderate income individuals. As a volunteer tax preparer, you will have access to IRS certified training, along with on-site supervision, to teach you the skills necessary to provide free tax preparation assistance to your community!

When will I work?

Typically, our volunteers work 4 hours per week through the tax filing season. You can volunteer during the daytime, evening time, and/or on Saturdays!

Where will I work?

We have over 15 VITA sites in Erie City and Erie County, so you can choose where you want to volunteer!

Why should I volunteer?

You’ll be providing a unique service to your community by helping qualified people with their tax returns. In addition, you’ll learn a new skill set, increase your network of professional contacts, and know that you are making a difference!
