During the 2024–25 school year, the Saturday Boys Basketball Team – organized by SV Community School Director Ms. Byrd and led by Community Volunteer Coach Mr. Shon, his brother, and Mr. Jennings – has served as a powerful source of mentorship, structure, and encouragement for more than 36 at-risk young men. Since it’s launch in October 2024, the program has gone beyond basketball skills, instilling teamwork, discipline, and personal growth in its participants. Each Saturday morning, coaches dedicate their time and energy to creating a safe, welcoming space where students feel a true sense of belonging, even when facing life’s challenges.
Parents have expressed deep appreciation for the program’s impact, sharing how it has motivated their children, provided a positive weekend focus, and offered a supportive environment.
The program will continue in the upcoming school year, carrying forward its mission to build character, strengthen community, and guide each student toward a brighter future – one Saturday at a time!
