Teacher Appreciation Week was recently...but supporting teachers goes far beyond a single week of recognition. It happens every day inside United Way Community Schools. Because when we invest in students, we’re also supporting the educators who show up for them.
Across United Way Community Schools, Community School Directors, are working together with the school to make the day-to-day a little more manageable for teachers, so they can focus on what matters most. Sometimes, that looks like small but meaningful moments.
- At Diehl Elementary, it’s providing monthly water service and recognizing staff with gift cards, simple ways to show appreciation and support.
- At Edison Elementary, Community School Corporate Partner, Wabtec Corporation volunteered to help staff pack and move to the new building, lightening the load during a busy time of year.
- At Elk Valley Elementary, a sensory room is being used by staff to better support students, with over 100 students benefiting from the space this quarter alone.
And across multiple schools, it’s as simple as providing meals and everyday support when it’s needed most.

This work also strengthens relationships across the school community.
"When teachers, families, and community partners work together, it builds a stronger sense of belonging and support for everyone, and that's why the United Way Community School Model is important” – Harding Elementary Teacher
There’s no single way to support a teacher, and that’s the point. It’s the combination of people showing up, in big and small ways, that makes the difference. Because when students are supported, teachers feel it too. And together, that’s how stronger schools, and a stronger community are built.
