Career Fair brings New Opportunities for Erie High Students

Wednesday Oct 22nd, 2025

At Erie High, a United Way Community School, preparing students for life beyond graduation means more than just academics—it’s about providing real-world opportunities..That came to life as more than 20 local businesses gathered at the school for a job fair, giving students direct access to career pathways, industry insights, and potential employment opportunities.

“My goal was to connect students directly with real opportunities—whether it’s jobs, internships, or simply expanding their understanding of what’s possible after graduation. I wanted them to leave feeling empowered and prepared for their future.” said Shateria Franklin, Erie High Community School Director.

As a United Way Community School, Erie High is committed to removing barriers that can stand between students and their potential... By bringing employers into Erie High, we’re making career opportunities more accessible to students and showing them that their dreams are within reach.

That accessibility is crucial for students who may not have the resources to explore career options outside of school. By hosting the fair on-site, students had the chance to interact with professionals in various industries without having to take time off or find transportation to job fairs in the community.

For many students, the job fair was an eye-opening experience...

Some arrived feeling unsure about their future but left with newfound confidence. “It was incredible to see the students light up with curiosity and confidence," Shateria stated.

"By the end of the day, students weren’t just collecting applications—they were building skills, making connections, and expanding their career awareness."
While the job fair was a significant step, there’s still work to be done in preparing students for their futures.

Shateria emphasized the importance of ongoing community support. The community and local businesses can continue to support our students by offering internships, job shadowing opportunities, and mentorship. By investing time and resources into students, they’re not only helping shape future professionals but also strengthening the entire Erie community.
