Celebrate Read Across Erie County Day

Monday Mar 7th, 2022

Aron Diehl

On Wednesday, March 2, schools across the community celebrated Read Across Erie County Day.

Our community school directors (CSDs) worked with their administrators and fellow teachers to generate positive ideas to get books in the hands of our youth. These activities ranged from: book bingo to read alouds, buddy reading, spirit week themes and more.

In the photo to your left you will see Aron, a Diehl Elementary School student leader, meeting Mayor Joe Schember for the very first time. Mayor Schember, one of Diehl's guest readers, read to Aron's fifth-grade class. Aron will likely remember this experience for a lifetime, which is tied back to Read Across Erie County Day.

Karen Donnelly, Diehl Elementary CSD, tallied all minutes read across Erie County for a grand total of 31,175 minutes.

With that. we encourage at least 20 minutes a day.

Donnelly says, "reading is not just for a day, but for a lifetime," and she is right!
