ERIE, PA (December 13, 2011) – As a leader in addressing poverty in Erie County, United Way today announced a ten-year commitment to provide one million dollars for the Erie Together movement. Following approval by its board of directors last week, United Way has allocated $100,000 a year for the next decade to continue and expand the work of the region-wide initiative to reduce poverty.
“We hope this commitment is seen as a ‘down payment’ on our region’s battle against poverty,” said Gwendolyn White, Personal Lines Underwriting Supervisor at Erie Insurance and chair of United Way of Erie County’s Board of Directors. “While this funding by itself may not be sufficient to fund Erie Together for the next decade, we hope other organizations and individuals in the community will step up and continue to do their part as well.”
