Celebrating Wegmans Partnership

Wednesday Aug 16th, 2023

When Wegmans wants to raise funds for United Way of Erie County, their goal is to create meaningful change in our community by supporting our mission…and to have fun while doing it!

“At Wegmans we value making a difference in every community we serve,” said Eric Weislogel, perishable area manager of Wegmans Peach Street and United Way Board member. “We partner with United Way for their unique ability to address the most critical needs of the community by bringing people and organizations together to do more than any of us can do alone.”

Here are just a handful of recent and upcoming events that showcase the collaboration between Wegmans and United Way:

  • May 17: Wegmans held a BINGO night, which was open to the public, to raise money for United Way.
  • July 11: United Way toured a group of Wegmans employees through East, a United Way community school. Attendees saw the community school model in action and visited two Erie Arts & Culture Purposeful Placemaking murals (photo above) along United Way Safer Walking Routes to School.
  • July 19: Wegmans held an employee bowling fundraiser for United Way.
  • July 22: In collaboration with the Erie Seawolves, Wegmans sponsored a movie night at UPMC Park. Attendees received free admission with a school supply donation for community schools.
  • July 25: Community School Directors (CSD) Julia Boyd and Meghan Easter spoke to Wegmans management teams on the work they do as CSDs within their respective schools.
  • July 28 - August 6: Presentations were given by Gina Schaefer, United Way’s resource development and office manager, to Wegmans to educate employees on our work.
  • August 24: Wegmans employees will be at McKinley Elementary, a United Way community school, for a Day of Caring project packing school supplies for students and prepping the building for the first day of school on August 28.
  • September 13: Wegmans will hold a United Way fundraiser golf tournament at Chautauqua Golf Club.

We are grateful to all Wegmans employees who work hard raising money on our behalf. Thank you, Wegmans, for being a powerful partner in our mission to CRUSH POVERTY!
