Community School Partners Roll Out the Red Carpet

Welcome back events planned at four United Way community schools

On Monday, August 28 a historic new school year will begin for Erie’s Public Schools students throughout United Way’s community schools. The day represents a fresh start for the children in our community. To ensure the school year kicks off enthusiastically, partners at four community school sites will gather to welcome students back with cheering, warm smiles and words of encouragement as part of planned “Red Carpet” events happening on the morning of the first day of school.

By giving students a “Red Carpet” welcome on the first day of school, the community is encouraging students to succeed and will collectively demonstrate the importance of supporting education through collaboration. Each of the events are being made possible through collaboration with community school directors, school and administration officials, lead partners and corporate partners.

These events would not be possible without strong partnerships with community school lead partners, corporate partners, school officials and volunteers. The community schools model is a strategy (not a program) for organizing school and community resources around student success. A community school is both a place and set of partnerships that help address health, wellness and the social needs of its students, families and the surrounding neighborhood. Schools become centers of the community, open to everyone, all day, every day, evenings and weekends. Community Schools represent a strategy, not a program.

Community-based organizations serve as Lead Partners in community schools, helping to mobilize community assets and coordinate resources, in cooperation with school staff. Each community school’s Lead Partner employs a Director who works in close relationship with the principal and the Community School Leadership Team. The hiring of each Director is made possible through Corporate Partner support.

PLEASE NOTE: This release includes information on the planned Red Carpet events at United Way community school sites only. Erie’s Public Schools will be issuing information with details on all red carpet events happening throughout the district.
