COVID 19 Response Volunteering

URGENT NEED in Erie, PA

The Erie County Department of Human Services in partnership with ServErie and United Way's 211 Helpline are in desperate need of volunteers (adults age 18+) to assist in the operation of the Homeless Overflow Shelter. Volunteers are needed immediately to help around the clock in incremental shifts. If you are interested in learning more and finding out if you may qualify to volunteer please visit PA211NW.org.

United Way of Erie County Office Closed to the General Public

Due to health threats posed by COVID-19, effective March 16, 2020, United Way of Erie County offices will be closed to the general public. United Way will continue to share relevant updates regarding organizational activities and services as available and ask for your patience during this time.

211 HELPLINE:

As the Erie region navigates the uncharted territory of COVID-19 in our community, we would like to remind you United Way’s 211 Helpline is available for those who find themselves in need of information and referral during this time. 211 is FREE and available 24/7/365 to all residents in Erie County free and confidentially. Need help? Don’t know where to turn? Those in need can dial 2-1-1, visit PA211NW.org to conduct your own search. You can also text your need and zip code to 898-211 to receive information by text.

In addition, if you are a nonprofit/social service agency and have adjustments to your program or service offerings during this time, please take a moment to update your information in the 211 database by reaching out to Paul Wotus via email at paul.wotus@unitedwayswpa.org.

 

ERIE FREE TAXES:

The Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service have announced that the federal income tax filing due date is automatically extended from April 15, 2020, to July 15, 2020. Taxpayers can also defer federal income tax payments due on April 15, 2020, to July 15, 2020, without penalties and interest, regardless of the amount owed.

COMMUNITY SCHOOLS:

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, United Way is working closely with Erie County school districts in the community schools partnership - Erie’s Public Schools, Girard School District and Iroquois School District - in the following ways: 

  • United Way is convening community school partners in different capacities to keep lines of communication opendiscuss partnership-level needs and to provide needed support. 
  • At this time, all community school directors and other related personnel are working remotely to address the most pressing needs of students and their families.   
  • Community school leadership teams are meeting virtually to continue their school’s planning efforts; food distribution at schools continues to be a priority.  
  • United Way continues to encourage those in need of non-emergency assistance to utilize the 211 Helpline for free and confidential information and referral assistance 24/7/365. FAMILYWIZE PRESCRIPTION DISCOUNT CARD:

The FamilyWize prescription discount card has become critically important. CVS and Walgreens are providing free delivery of prescription medications. Learn more

When you call-in to get a prescription filled or refilled, you can ask that the FamilyWize discount be applied by providing the following information that is on the card and available online at FamilyWize.org.  There is no registration required to use the FamilyWize card.
