Too many absences (excused or unexcused) can keep students from succeeding in school and in life.

How many are too many? Chronic Absenteeism = 10% of the school year

That’s just 18 missed days or 2 days a month to knock students off track.

Learn more about Chronic Absenteeism and Truancy in our downloadable fact sheet.

Chronic Absenteeism vs. Truancy

Did you know?

➜ An excused absence is an approved reason for a student to miss school per school district guidelines or a medical note from a doctor.

An absence is excused for illness, religious holidays, and death/funerals.

You have TEN (10) days to turn in an excuse before the absence becomes unexcused.

➜ An unexcused absence is a not approved reason for a student to miss school per school district guidelines or not returning with a medical note from a doctor.

An unexcused absence can be, but isn't limited to; oversleeping, car trouble, student stayed somewhere else the night before, etc.

Don't forget about Tardy Minutes - they add up!

Tardiness applies when a student: arrives late to school, leaves school early without valid excuse, arrives late to class periods, etc.
