Based on an initial needs-assessment survey, Women In Action has focused on funding domestic violence. In less than three years, Women In Action has put almost $150,000 into the community to help combat this critical issue.

Women In Action awarded grants to 501(c)3 organizations that provide protection from and prevention of domestic violence. Utilizing the rigorous allocations process that is a staple of United Way funding, an independent review panel of trained community volunteers selected initiatives or programs to receive funds raised by Women In Action.

In previous years, SafeNet and Safe Horizons collaborated to receive funding for a public awareness campaign and My Father’s House of Erie, a non-United Way member agency, received funds for its long-term residency program. This year, $20,090 was granted to the Support Services and Family Life Skills Education Program at Partnership of Women Religious (POWR) and $6,736 was granted to the Empowerment for Protection and Prevention Program at Safe Horizons.

A Request For Proposal (RFP) will be made available in October 2010. At that time, it will be placed on the website so that it may be downloaded. Any 501(c)3 organization that fits the funding focus may apply for funds. Proposals will be received by the end of October. Review of proposals and funding decisions will be made in December 2010. Grants will be awarded in January 2011. The amount available for funding is dependent upon the amount raised. That’s where YOU and your generous support come in!
