What is Success By 6?

Administered by Early Connections, Success By 6 is the Early Care and Education Initiative for Erie County. Primarily funded by United Way of Erie County and grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare and the Erie Community Foundation, the goal of Success By 6 is to ensure that all children in Erie County have the preparation they need to succeed as they enter the education system.

Why Success By 6?

Every year, as many as 40 percent of children entering kindergarten in Erie County cannot consistently recognize letters, colors and numbers. Because learning starts before school, United Way of Erie County created Success By 6, an initiative designed to give young children the basic skills they will need to succeed in school.

How can Success By 6 help?

Studies with a national scope have concluded that every dollar invested in early childhood education produces a return of $7 in the form of reduced costs for special education, welfare and reduced dropout rates. Need more information? Contact Valerie Kish-Bierbower at Early Connections at 874-0144 (ext. 15).

Help your child succeed in school, and in life. Reading to them just 15 minutes a day can make all the difference in the world - and you don't even have to be a superhero. For more information, please visit the following organizations' websites:
