These basic services include emergency food, clothing, shelter, as well as assistance for older adults and those with disabilities, services for victims of domestic violence and other crimes, and services that respond in times of disaster and other emergencies.

Armed Forces Emergency Services

Military personnel and their families will be able to contact each other expeditiously in cases of family emergencies including financial hardship, death in the family, etc., reducing family stress.

Blindness and Low Vision Rehabilitation

Persons visually impaired will overcome their visual problems and improve their functioning in daily life.

Cleft Palate Clinic
Northwestern PA Cleft Palate Institute
Children will have restored facial structure and improved verbal skills and self esteem through surgery and therapy. Parents also will have improved awareness of craniofacial morphology

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Preschool
Barber National Institute
Deaf and Hard of Hearing children will demonstrate enhanced developmental abilities, learn new communication skills and use them in daily life; parents also will improve their communication skills by learning and using sign language.

Direct Assistance
The Salvation Army-Erie Service Unit
Clients immediate financial crisis is resolved through vouchers, bill payment, etc.; clients will become aware of resources and better understand behaviors (e.g., budget) for avoiding financial crisis.

Disaster Services

Individuals and families will receive basic needs assistance to recover from natural or human-induced disasters will experience stability within 60 days.

Homeless men, including single men, women and families will have their immediate needs for food, shelter, clothing and safety met; they will develop a plan to overcome homelessness by addressing underlying issues contributing to their homelessness

Financial Assistance

Individuals will receive financial assistance in order to get them through temporary crisis situations.  Individuals will learn to budget more effectively.

Habilitation of Blind Children

Program that helps blind and/or severely visually impaired children 5 to 19 years old reduce social isolation and improve daily functioning.

Health Promotion & Disease Management for Seniors

Senior citizens will receive services and support, such as physician referrals and vaccinations that help them reduce risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke and flu and pneumonia.

Home-Delivered Meals to Under Age 60

Physically impaired and mentally ill individuals will receive regular, nutritious meals at home from a caring volunteer, allowing them to maintain independence at home.

Victims of domestic violence will have their immediate needs for safety and shelter met.  Through awareness of the community resources available, they will develop a plan for the safety of themselves and their children, begin to implement that plan, and build to a stable living environment.

Individuals with low incomes and severe disabilities, through training and case management, will learn skills and obtain resources and use them in daily life in order to live independently.

Victims of sexual assault will become knowledgeable about and cope with assault-related issues (e.g., low self-esteem, inability to trust, depression, repeat victimization, drug and alcohol abuse); they will become knowledgeable about taking their cases to the authorities.

Victims of domestic violence living in rural Erie County will receive emergency shelter and counseling.

Social Services Food Pantry

Individuals and families with low-incomes will receive food assistance on an emergency or weekly basis.

Special Meals

Individuals will become more aware of nutrition, food assistance and spending money effectively and wisely on food.  Individuals will no longer need food pantry services.
