United Way Sets Record
"We set a real stretch goal prior to the start of the 2005-06 Campaign last September," said Campaign Chair Jim Gehrlein, who is also the Area President of National City Bank. "However, Mother Nature sure threw us some curveballs in form of natural disasters that included Hurricanes Rita and Katrina and the earthquake in Pakistan."

"But when you combine that fact with gas prices over $3 a gallon and the speculation about winter home energy costs and we weren't sure what to expect." "But people responded. Our message resonated with them," he continued. "We told them 'don't forget our friends and neighbors right here in our own backyard,' and United Way is the single best way to do that."
