Homeless Persons Memorial Day - December 21

The Home Team of Erie County, a local group of government representatives, service providers, business owners, consumers and concerned citizens working to address homelessness in Erie County, will recognize next Wednesday, December 21 as Homeless Persons Memorial Day.

United Way of Erie County is one member of many partnering entities that form The Home Team (complete list here: http://www.eriehometeam.org/about-us/).

Below are details regarding the public ceremony planned at 10am in the Perry Square Bandstand on Wednesday.

  • Who: Home Team of Erie County

  • What: National Homeless Persons Memorial Day

  • Where: Perry Square Bandstand

  • When: Wednesday, December 21 from 10:00am-10:30am

Why: Each year, on or near the first day of winter and the longest night of the year, The Home Team of Erie County coordinates a public event to commemorate HomelessPersons Memorial Day.  This is a day when our community comes together to bring attention to the tragedy of homelessness and to remember our homeless friends who have died in the past year. Home Team will also issue a call to action: visit the Home Team website to learn more about homelessness in our community, as well as ways in which you can support the Overflow Shelter this winter.
